Putting Ideas into Designs: Battlefield Design Workshops Thursday 15 November

Thank you to everyone who attended the Design Workshops last Thursday for the second stage of the Battlefield community-led Street Design project.

We had a great turnout of 109 people who attended the event and viewed the feedback and comments that we’ve collected so far, took part in discussions around cycling and turned ideas into designs through discussions and practical workshops.

A big thanks to Bike for Good for delivering the Dr Bike session at the event and running health checks and mini repairs for everyone’s bikes.

Event Details

The event was held at Langside Parish Church last Thursday with a drop-in session from 3pm until 8pm where everyone could view the feedback and comments from the community about the area and how they can be turned into designs. If you didn’t get a chance to read our display boards you can read them here - link to display boards .

During the event we held a series of design workshops for people to take the opportunity to discuss ideas for redesigning the street in a 3D scale by using miniature models and maps of the area.

Later on we held a workshop about travelling in the area to discuss people’s experiences and views of cycling in Battlefield and what can be improved to encourage more people to travel by bike.

Next steps for the project

This session forms a major part of our information collection. With the comments and ideas from this event and with the background data, material and facts gathered in the discover stage we will be looking to commence forming the outline design for the area.

Upcoming events

Over the winter and early spring we will continue to work with the design working group, the steering group, Glasgow City Council and SPT to create proposals. These proposals will be open to your comments in March where we will hold another drop-in event and over a period of time the designs will be displayed in multiple venues and through the Commonplace website.

In the meantime watch this space for more local events in your area including led bike rides, local walks, film screenings and more. Keep checking this site for details of upcoming events or contact emily.gait@sustrans.org.uk for more information.
